Road Trip

I could drive my car with eyes trained on the rear view mirror, celebrating the impressive length of road behind me and ignoring what is ahead. But by spending my time happily reminiscing about all the obstacles already subverted, I am vulnerable to dangers ahead.

Maybe I shall drive my car staring out the front windshield with hyperfocus. Driving fast and never crashing, I will reach my destination in no time at all. Of course it is necessary to look in the rear-view mirror on occasion so as to avoid getting rear-ended.

Thank God I don't have to worry about such decisions, since, after all, I do not drive the car. I am the passenger, sitting shotgun. I lean my head against the side window and watch all that passes by, feeling mild vibrations reverberate pleasantly through the skull. On both sides of the road, an endless expanse of wheat bombards the eyes with rich golden light.
